Residents are quoted off their own price list, in rand, on the same concession our overseas clients hunt. Two ways to do it: for the freezer, or for the wall.
Pick the one you actually came for.
They are genuinely different bookings, not the same trip at two prices. Most residents know which one they want before they finish reading this sentence.
Biltong and meat hunting
Short trips, usually a long weekend. Representative animals at a fair age rather than measured trophies, field dressed and cut to your order in our cold room. No trophy preparation, no taxidermist, no waiting eighteen months for a crate.
Groups of friends, hunting clubs, and anyone who came for meat rather than a wall.

Identical hunting to what our overseas clients book, on the same concession with the same professional hunters. What comes off the price is everything a resident does not need: the airport transfer, the firearm import facilitation, the dip-and-pack, and any exposure to the rand.
Residents who want a measured animal and are prepared to hunt properly for it.

Our travel guide is written for somebody flying in with a firearm import permit. If you are driving up from Gauteng with a rifle already in your name, none of it applies to you. This does.
Getting here
Roughly three and a half hours from Pretoria and four from Johannesburg, almost all of it on tar.
- N1 north to Mokopane, then district road. The last 11km is good gravel and a sedan does it comfortably in the dry.
- In the wet season the last stretch wants ground clearance. Phone ahead if it has been raining and we will meet you on the tar.
- The gate is manned from 06h00 to 20h00. Arriving later is fine, but tell us so somebody waits up.
- There is no fuel after Mokopane. Fill up there, not at the turnoff.
Licences, rifles and paperwork
Less than most first-timers expect, and we handle the part that involves the province.
- Bring your firearm licence for every rifle you travel with, and your ID. A copy is not enough if you are stopped.
- The concession is a registered game farm and we arrange the provincial permits against your booking. You do not apply for anything yourself.
- Borrowing a rifle from a friend for the trip requires their written permission letter. We can send you the wording.
- Rifle hire is available if you would rather not travel with your own, including ammunition.
- Everyone shoots in on the range before the first hunt. No exceptions, and it is not charged for.
Meat, the cold room and getting it home
The part that actually decides whether a biltong trip was worth doing.
- Every animal is field dressed within the hour and hung in the cold room the same day.
- Cutting and packing is included. Tell us how you want it: whole cuts, mince, or set aside for biltong and droëwors.
- We make boerewors and droëwors on site to your own recipe if you bring it. There is a charge per kilogram.
- Bring more cooler box space than you think. An impala is about 25kg of packed meat, a blue wildebeest closer to 120kg.
- If you are staying more than three days we can freeze rather than chill, which travels better on a long drive.
Groups, weekends and the camp
Most local bookings are groups, and the camp is sized for exactly that.
- Six en-suite chalets. Four rifles or more takes the whole camp, and we do not double up with another party.
- Self-catering is available on the biltong strand and the kitchen is yours. Full board is easier and most groups end up choosing it.
- Weekends book out first, from March onward. Midweek is quieter, cheaper and the hunting is no different.
- Non-hunting partners and children are welcome and there is plenty for them to do that is not hunting.
If you are travelling in rather than driving up, the international price list is the one that applies to you. It is quoted in dollars and it folds in the things a resident does not need: the transfer from O.R. Tambo, the firearm import permit, and the dip-and-pack and freight to get your trophies home.
